I found the cookie Saturday morning when I was frantically looking for the church phone directory.
I knew the directory had to be in the file cabinet somewhere and so I searched through every. single. folder. And instead of the directory, I found a cookie. The first thought that came to my mind was, “Why is there a cookie in the file cabinet?” Second thought, “Uh-oh, Devin’s become a cookie hoarder!”. Before immediately calling him and accusing him of hoarding cookies (especially expensive fancy cookies shaped like maple leaves!) I put it back in the folder as my mother’s voice reminded me, “During special seasons and holidays, you should not be snooping and asking questions.” Sunday was my birthday and Devin would be home in the evening from his trip…I would ask him then. I was NOT snooping!
Then I burnt the cupcakes I was making for church, it poured during the wedding I had that afternoon, all out door portrait locations were ruined, and the cold that had been threatening was making me feel worse and worse. Come Sunday morning when Devin called me, the cookie was far from my mind.
“Good morning sweetheart. Happy birthday,” he said, “Can you do me a big favor? I need the designs for the catapult we built scanned and e-mailed to me. They are in the “Projects” folder.”
“Like…now? But I’m late for church and need to set things up for fellowship!” I said.
“Please? It would really mean a lot to me.” He can be so convincing…
Back to the file cabinet, a little grumbly over being made late, I find the “Projects” folder and…the cookie. 🙂 Along with a handwritten note that I had (thankfully!) missed the day before! Devin has a way with words and making a sheet of white lined paper mean SO much! I’m a lucky lady. In so many ways! 🙂
Besides not feeling well and it pouring cold rain all day, it was a wonderful birthday. Everyone in church sang to me (::blush::), I cuddled with Leisl on the couch and watched a movie/took a nap in the afternoon, Devin made tacos when he arrived home, and then my Mum and Dad surprise visited us with a chocolate satin mint cake and daffodil bulbs for the gardens! A wonderful day. Thank you to everyone who sent me notes and messages wishing me a great day! You made it so.
